The idea of cloud computing might seem like a seriously big deal. Don’t worry I got you today.
What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing according to The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.
To further break it down , let me give an illustration
Cloud is a book while cloud computing is the way of inputting commands, information into the book.
That is Cloud is the internet and cloud computing is the way of inputting commands, codes, information, and adding functionality to the internet through softwares and services running in the internet
How does cloud computing work?
Needful to note is that cloud computing isn’t the same as hosting. Individuals and Business usually do not have the needed facilities or infrastructures to own the applications they use for business. Usually these applications are owned by third party businesses and individuals and businesses pay to use the user end part of it.
Cloud computing service models
Types of cloud computing service models :
There are three types of cloud computing service models::
- Infrastructure as a service (IaaS): This allows users to access services via the cloud. Services such as Storage, Networking, servers and others. IaaS provides automations that gives a high degree of control and flexibility for the user while the users are still actively in charge of managing their personal data.
- Platform as a service (PaaS): These types of services are majorly for professionals and developers for easy building of platforms, applications and websites.
- Software as a service (SaaS): These are business targeted cloud computing services that help businesses manage key parts like CRM,Sales and Marketing aspects of businesses.
There are quite a number of companies that offer cloud computing services:
- Amazon web Services: Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 200 fully featured services from data centers globally.
- Microsoft Azure: Microsoft Azure, often referred to as Azure, is a cloud computing service created by Microsoft for building, testing, deploying, and managing applications and services through Microsoft-managed data centers.
- Google Cloud Services: Google Cloud Platform (GCP), offered by Google, is a suite of cloud computing services that runs on the same infrastructure that Google uses internally for its end-user products, such as Google Search, Gmail, Google Drive, and YouTube
- Heroku: Heroku is a platform as a service (PaaS) that enables developers to build, run, and operate applications entirely in the cloud.
- Digital Ocean: DigitalOcean provides developers cloud services that help to deploy and scale applications that run simultaneously on multiple computers.
